A Little Bit More About Me
Growing up with a Diabetic father, (the type 1 version) I developed an interest in nutrition and the importance it plays in keeping us healthy. His life literally depended on it.
But it wasn't until my own health issues that my real learning about what it takes to be healthy and happy began. Ten years ago, two weeks after my Dad died, on my birthday I had a lifesaving operation to remove a Melanoma. I should have been better after this, right? No, this diagnosis was the end result of a body and life out of balance. I was stressed and burnt out, had gut issues and started to put on weight. Have you gone through a stressful time, like a divorce, death or trauma?
I made it my mission to rebuild my body and mind in a healthier way. Already a Naturopath, I started studying health coaching through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, which changed my life. I learned that food is a very powerful form of medicine and that I can choose on a daily basis to eat the foods that make me feel anxious, fatigued and bloated, or the ones that fuel my body so it can perform at it's best. I became more empowered as I found the foods that worked best for my body and incorporated them in my cooking.
I learned about the importance of not only food
but Primary Food. It’s
easy to overlook all of the things that contribute to our sense of
nourishment and fulfillment. It’s not just the food we eat, but all of
the other factors present in our daily lives. Healthy relationships, a
fulfilling career, regular physical activity and a spiritual awareness
are essential forms of nourishment. When these “primary foods” are
balanced, what you eat becomes secondary.
